ZAKOUMA 24 MARCH – 1 APRIL 2018

OUR PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI STYLE

Our photographic safaris and workshops are designed for photographers of all levels, from beginners to experts. There will always be one of our professional photographers to assist you on the vehicle. Our photographic safaris are focused on tracking wildlife, according to the experience of our guides and of the wildlife photographer who will host the group. To maximize the photographic aspects, there will never be more than 6 guests and the car will always be reserved for our small group. Our vehicle will always be positioned in the best way possible, thinking both about composition and light, to allow you to take great shots. We will look for interesting scenes and stick to them as long as possible, in order to make the most out of every possible interaction.

ZAKOUMA

Zakouma National Park, created in south east of Chad in 1963, is today one of the last examples of Sudano-Sahelian ecosystems across Africa. The protective measures implemented in the Park since 1989 and the good maintenance of local ecosystems have allowed a spectacular regrouth of local fauna: elephants, buffaloes, antelope and large felines today abound in Zakouma’s planes. What distinguishes the Sudan-Sahilian ecosystem of this particular park is the alternation of the dry and rainy season. Observing the great concentration of elephants around the last ponds in April, the hottest time of the dry season, and seeing the park completely flooded from June to October, during the rainy season, could make you think of two different places: but it is this unique feature which has made it possible to safeguard and preserve this ecosystem, and makes of Zakouma a unique sanctuary throughout Africa. It is a park in the narrowest sense of the term where there is no voyeurism on the roof of a minibus like in a zoo, but where you will discover, on foot and by car, this pristine nature and how it should be without any human implication.

A GLIMPSE OF THE TOUR

We will meet in N’Djamena the evening of the first day. Transfer to the hotel, overnight stay and breakfast (not included). In the morning we will drive through the Guare region, characterized by its spectacular granite formations (inselbergs) and its ethnological variety. We’ll spend the night in a tent (bring your sleeping bag and cushion). Arrival and accommodation at Zakouma on the 3rd day, here we will spend the next 5 nights. Two long game drives per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and sometimes we could opt for a walking safari. There will be also two evening game drives included, an unforgettable experience… We will have the possibility to visit and discover the villages around the park, authentic and out-of-the-way. On the eighth day we will leave the Zakouma Park to continue north through an immense flat savannah to the village of Mongo, located on the edge of the Aboutelfane area , an ancient hilly hunting territory, inside of which stands the Guédi mountain, 1500 meters high, scored by wide inhabited valleys. We will approach this hilly system passing through the most interesting villages in the area, towards the west, in the direction of Bitkine and Ab Toyour, two small villages with lively markets, places of trade for local people. They are located in a mountain region, in which stands the Pic de Guéra. Here, the Aadjerai ethnic group (from Arabian “the inhabitants of the stone country”), a people of farmers and hunters of the most refined techniques, takes great importance. We will spend another night in a tent before reaching N’Djamena. Rooms available for a shower (3/4 people per room). Free dinner. Transfer to the airport and end of the trip.

ACCOMMODATION

We will stay at Tinga Camp in Zakouma. This small and cozy lodge placed on the banks of the Tinga River, in the heart of the park, will be our base, as the ideal starting point for all excursions. It is a recently renovated government structure dating back to the 50’s, offering basic but clean accommodation. All rooms have a bathroom, mosquito net and ceiling fan. Electricity is available 24/7 and sockets are present in all rooms. A restaurant and a bar complement the amenities of this lodge.

During this adventurous journey we will have the opportunity to spend a couple of nights in tents on the approach and return transfer (bring a sleeping bag). We will have a team that will set up the camp and take care of us, with a chef providing lunches and dinners.
